Retirement Reinvented with Jim Eagar
My pal Jim Eagar recently started something new, and I’m really proud of him. It’s a retirement coaching service that isn’t focused on the financials. On his blog, Original Mac Guy, he wrote about his own experience with retirement:
“When I retired over 10 years ago, I had no idea what retirement involved. I didn’t know it was a major life transition or what to expect.
After the first-year honeymoon phase, I was surprised by the emotional shift that followed with the “loss and lost” phase—loss of identity, purpose, status, and social connection, all of which are more common in retirement than most people realize.
That experience eventually led me to a deeper question: How could I help others navigate this same transition more smoothly?”
Retirememt Reinvented is Jim’s new coaching program for people who want to retire with intention, and he’s done his homework. He did the work to become a Certified Retirement Coach, but I know having been friends with him for several years that he already had the chops. Jim did an episode of The Focused Podcast a few years back, and his perspective on retirement is incredible. It’s well researched, deeply thought through, and considers what actually happens when a person leaves behind their working lives, which often become a big part of our personality and a source of our relationships, whether we want that to happen or not.
In addition to regularly texting and sharing ideas with each other, Jim and I have been doing a regular call for years. We talk candidly about a lot of things, from creativity and professional challenges to navigating family relationships and self improvement. If you’re looking for someone to help you figure out how to retire into a purpose that is meaningful to you, Jim is your guy.
